PTA Goals for 2008-2009

Art City Elementary PTA

Goals for 2008-2009

Based on the response of the Needs Assessment Survey we have determined the following 3 areas as our focus for the 2008-2009 school year:

Promote Respect for Authority and Good Behavior toward Others

Eagle Eye--We look forward to participating in a brand new program at Art City called Eagle Eye. This program will reward all students throughout the year for going the extra mile, being kind to others and showing gratitude. Our Student Council will be running the program.

The Nation's Largest Teacher Thank-You Card project. An effort to collect thousands of thank-you messages to teachers from individuals across the nation. Our message is simple: Thank a Teacher! This project was created in response to an NEA poll revealing that the gift nearly half of all teachers would most like to receive is a simple "thank you."

Still searching for a fun assembly with this focus.

Strengthen Parent/Family Involvement in School

Communicate more effectively-monthly emails along with flyers, announcements, newsletters to parents with reminders of upcoming events and activities.

Opportunities to be more involved in our children’s education. We are planning an upcoming Parent Volunteer Day. Possibly adopting the program Three 4 Me. See more at: http://www.three4me.com/about.htm

Monthly invitations to join and participate in our PTA board meetings. If not able to be there, meeting minutes will be available on the Art City Elementary PTA blog at http://artcitynews.blogspot.com/

Encourage and Promote Healthy Nutrition in the lives of our students

Participate with the Nebo School Districts Healthy Lifestyle Challenge

Sponsor a fun assembly, Mont Magic’s “Mission Nutrition”. This assembly teaches children the value of nutrition in a fun and exciting way. To learn more about this assembly and ways in which parents can become involved go to the following web sites: http://www.hypnomontmagic.com/MARS.html

T-shirt Updates

Just a reminder that this Thursday is Art City Elementary's SEPs from 3:00 to
8:30 PM. Our much anticipated t-shirts and sweatshirts will be available to pick
up that night. See you then!

Message from the President

We had a GREAT Green Ribbon Week last week with all kinds of fun, prizes,
celebrities and good information for every student at Art City Elementary.
I took a minute to quiz my kids about what they learned from the week and I
was pleasantly surprised to hear they knew almost all the bike and walking
safety rules and planned on practicing them.

A BIG THANKS to Cory Fisher, our Health and Safety Commissioner, along with
her fabulous committee. They put in many hours and we thank them for it and
hopefully our children remembered to thank them as well.

We look forward to Red Ribbon Month coming in October!

Good luck to all helping and participating this week with our Book Fair.

You're all amazing!

Thank you.

Mr. Rowe: Introduced Nischelle Morgan, the Teacher VP. Discussed the Eagle Eye Tickets-recognize kids who are doing good job and give them a slip. The school keeps the carbon copy and prizes will be drawn from the slips in the mornings. An idea about having names in plaques and student council will run it with Mr. Rowe. Membership: Sarah Ferrin discussed the membership of 210 this year and 10% were males. Volunteer hours need to be marked and accounted for. She will call monthly to submit hours to log for parents coming and helping and maybe have incentive for helping hours.

Legislative: Arryn Patten gets e-mail from PTA child adv., anything that affects children.

School Pictures: Sarah Sumsion discussed same pictures and plan for spring pictures.
