As we continue our Ken Garff Road to Success Program, we want to remind all parents and students to keep working towards our goal of 1.5 Million Minutes of reading! Read your 20+ minutes each night, record it on the calendars, and remember to turn in your 100 Minute
slips to the library! Keep up the good work!

Thank You
Spring picture day was efficient and fun thanks to Sarah Sumsion, Sarah Ferrin and committees. Class signs were awesome, thanks teachers! Lights, Camera, Action! Thanks Jennifer Follette, Deanna Lindsey, Angel Pearce and their committee. The Book Fair was star studded! We would also like to thank Kim Droubay and the SEP Dinner Committee for putting on another
scrumptious feast for our teachers and staff.

Utah PTA
To follow Utah PTA’s position in the Legislature, go to the following and link up with the Utah Priority Bill Sheet and the Commissioner’s Priority Bill Sheet
http://www.utahpta.org/advocacy.htm#billsheets. It is interesting to follow and the list is updated regularly as new bills are sponsored and others die without passage.
PTA Meeting
The PTA General Membership meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 3rd at 10:00 in the faculty lounge. We will be voting on the 2009-2010 PTA Board. All PTA members are invited to attend.

Volunteer of the Month
Congratulations to Christine Haruch for being named the volunteer of the month for January. She gave 555 minutes! Thanks for all that you do for the school.
Theme Baskets
Our spring carnival and theme basket fundraiser is right around the corner. If you have baskets you would like to donate or know of a company that would like to donate items for the fundraiser, please contact Samantha Gwilliam at 489-9773 or samthad@comcast.net.
Teacher Appreciation Week
Teacher Appreciation Week is next month! The appreciation week will be held April 6th-10th. Look for a flyer to be sent home the week before with a list of events the children can participate in to honor their teacher. We encourage parents to help the children remember the fun things they get to do each day. We are so grateful for all that the teachers do for our children here at Art City Elementary. We can’t wait for next month!
Used Books Wanted
Art City Elementary will soon have its own bookstore! Alex Knowlton is working on an Eagle Project to bring an “Exchange” bookstore to Art City Elementary to make books available to own for students of any age or income. We will be accepting donations of used or new books, anything from children’s books to young adult. A drop box will be in place at Art City through the month of March. The bookstore will be called “Britt’s Bookstore” in memory of Britton Dalley (1990-2008), a former Art City Elementary student, who was an avid reader and role model. Please contact Alex Knowlton at 489-8411 if you have any questions.
RadKids Simulation
The RadKids Simulation for the 4th grade classes will be held on March 10th and 12th. This is a great opportunity for parents and siblings to see what the kids have been learning. The evening times are as follows:
• March 10th 5:15 – Hadlock
6:30 – Camper
• March 12th 5:15 – Balser
6:30 – Grant
Thanks to Julia Murray for organizing such a great program!
Nebo Healthy Lifestyle Challenge
Along with October’s 30 minutes of physical activity, November’s 5 fruits and/or vegetables, December’s and January’s Enjoy the Ride Challenge doing an activity which the student chooses, February’s Smart Beverage Challenge drinking no sugar drinks, this month we are adding the Whole Grain Challenge. The students this month should eat half of their grains as whole grains (for 18 days of the month). Thanks so much for your participation. Please record the student’s initials on the March Firelight/Healthy Lifestyle Challenge calendar. Turn in the calendar at the end of the month.
Essay Contest
We have been made aware of an essay contest. It is the "Change My World Essay" contest 2009. The YMCA of Utah and Travel Masters are sponsoring an essay contest open to all students in the State of Utah age kindergarten to Senior Year. There are some great prizes and awards donated including scholarships trips and gift certificates. If you would like to read more about
this event, you can visit their website at www.changemyworldessay.com.
Fridays
Each Friday is the day to show your school spirit by wearing your school t-shirt or sweatshirt or wearing the school colors (blue and yellow).
