Kindergarten Registration

Please mark your calendars for Tuesday, April 5th. Kindergarten registration will be held from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at all Springville and Mapleton elementary schools. This registration is for all students who will be entering kindergarten in August 2011. Please register at your neighborhood school and bring a birth certificate and current immunization record with you. Children must be 5 years old on or before September 1, 2011 to be enrolled for the fall.

Book Fair

Art City is happy to announce they have your ticket to read at our Book Fair Carnival on March 14th-17th. Mark your calendars now for fantastic books and family fun.

Open Enrollment

Just a reminder that the Open Enrollment window closes on February 18th. Applications are available in the office.

Spring Pictures

Spring Pictures will be on February 9th. In past years, every child had a picture taken at Spring Pictures, and a packet was sent home that you could purchase. This will change this year. Only students who have prepaid with an order form will have their picture taken. If you want your child’s picture taken, make sure to send the order form and payment in that day.

Class pictures for the yearbook will also be taken on this day.

Chess Club

The Chess Club has donated two chess boards and a book titled “Chess for Children” to the Art City library. These items are available to check out for home use.

Many thanks to David Taylor and Bret Elzinga for their time and effort with the Chess Club.

Chess Tournaments

The Nebo District Chess Tournament will be March 5th. Watch for the flyer and for registration to be available at clarkwork.com/utahchess/

The State Chess Tournament will be March 19th. Watch for more information.

Recess Procedures

We want to inform you of the current policies that are in place for our recess schedule. If the outside temperature is under 20 degrees, all students are required to stay inside. We provide appropriate activities on these days. If the outside temperature is above 20 degrees and all other conditions are normal (wind, rain, snow,) students are sent outside for activities. Students must be prepared with coats, gloves, hats, etc. Please make sure names are labeled on these items. Students with notes from home indicating the need to stay inside will be provided a place to do so.

Air quality is also a concern, so the office does monitor the air quality on a daily basis. We follow the guidelines provided to us by the Utah Department of Health.

Healthy Lifestyles Campaign

Watch for the “Smart Beverage Challenge” coming in March.

Sonic Fundraiser

Watch for information in next month’s newsletter on our upcoming Sonic Fundraiser.

Thank You

Many thanks to:

* Springville Recreation Dept., Big O Tires and Shaybee's for their contributions to our Health and Safety week.
* Kim Droubay and her committee for serving dinner to the teachers for Jan. SEPs.

PTA Matching Funds

The Art City PTA was able to match funds with the school to purchase audio/video equipment for use in the classrooms.

Yearbook Presale

Be on the lookout for a flyer about the Yearbook Presale. The flyer will contain an order form that you can turn in with your payment to reserve your copy of the yearbook. Yearbooks will be passed out the last week of school.

The cost of the yearbooks will be $9. A few extra copies will be available, but they sell out fast, so please preorder if you would like one.

Volunteers

There are always opportunities to volunteer at Art City Elementary. If you are interested, please call Jen Follette at 801-489-7036.

Parenting with Love and Logic

The Parenting with Love and Logic course is designed to help parents practice effective parenting without the power struggles.

Parenting with Love and Logic teaches parents and children to accept natural consequences and reach a win/win agreement.

Course length is 4 weeks. Classes will be held at Art City Elementary March 23rd, 30th, April 13th, and 20th at 6:00 p.m. Call Ronda Crane at 801-489-2820 to register. Other dates are available at various schools. For more information check www.nebo.edu.
