School News

Kindergarten Registration
If you were unable to register your child for kindergarten in March, we encourage you to come in ASAP between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. to take care of that. Please spread the word to any friends or neighbors with children that will be starting kindergarten that may have
missed the registration as well.
Requests
Art City Elementary does not accept teacher requests from parents for the upcoming year. Instead, Mr. Rowe works closely with teachers when preparing class lists to ensure the best experience for each child and to keep classes balanced. However, if you have legitimate
concerns, Mr. Rowe encourages you to put them in writing and schedule an appointment to discuss the best fit for your child before May 14, 2010. Mr. Rowe will not make any class changes for the next year after that date.
Volunteers
We want to extend a big thank you to all of you wonderful volunteers who take time out of your days to make a difference at our school.
Talent Week
We are excited to announce that Talent Week will be the week of May 10th-14th. Tables will be set up in the main lobby for students to display their visual creations. The annual Talent Shows will be held on May 10th at 1:00 p.m. and May 12th at 9:00 a.m. More information will be
sent home the first part of May. Start preparing!
Testing
The state year-end testing window opens on April 19th and closes on May 19th. Please avoid planning things such as appointments, vacations or anything that would take the student away from school during those dates. Thank you for your help in this matter.
On Your Mark, Get Ready, Get Set….
for Art City Elementary’s third annual 5K Fun Run on May 26th. More info to come, but start training now!

Help for Haiti
We had an amazing outcome to the charitable fundraiser that was held at the school for Haiti.
Because of all your generous donations, around $2800 was raised in just a short time. The money is now being used to buy and distribute items to the Haitian people to help them to get back on their feet after the destruction to much of their country. Thanks so much for caring and doing something about it!
A Big Thank You
Thanks to Deanna Lindsey, Jennifer Follette, Kim Droubay and all the others who helped out, for all the hard work they put into the Book Fair in March. It was a great success and we all had a ton of fun! Thank you to all of you who came and supported the Book Fair. The money that we earned goes to the teachers in the form of books for their classrooms.
PTA Award of Excellence
This year Mr. Rowe and the PTA decided to give the PTA Award of Excellence to Julia Murray! We gave it to Julia for the many, many hours of work she gives to the school helping the teachers and students. On top of being one of our PE teachers, she also runs the Journalism club, helps with the school play, volunteers in her child's class and also volunteers countless hours to running the radKIDS program. She has been with the radKIDS program from the beginning at our school. She is very passionate about it and how it benefits each student who goes through the program. Julia is always willing to go above and beyond her duties at the school and is great at helping out in a pinch. We asked her husband why he thinks she gives so much of her time and energy to the school and he said, "It's because she loves the kids." Julia we thank you so much for all you do for Art City Elementary!
Teacher Appreciation
“I Spy With My Eagle Eye…” It’s time to honor our teachers and staff for all that they do for Art City Elementary! Our Teacher Appreciation Week is coming up on April 26th-30th. Thanks to all of you who filled out our “I Spy” Nominations. We filled the entire “I Spy” box! During this week here are some suggestions for students and parents to show appreciation and to give a little “I Spy” service.
• Monday: Perform a good deed for your teacher and leave a “Secret Service” note. Don’t forget to include our office staff, cafeteria ladies, custodians, P.E. teachers, librarian, etc.
• Tuesday: Give your teacher something you create yourself, whether it is a drawing, a painting, a letter or a project.
• Wednesday: Parents (and grandparents) this is your day to offer help. Ask your teacher if there is something you can do to help make the day a little easier…example: invite your teacher to go to lunch a little early, read to the class, help with math problems, etc.
• Thursday: Guess the Teacher Day! Complete the Teacher-Baby-Picture-Puzzle, submit it to the office and the first few students who guess correctly will win a prize to share with their teacher.
• Friday: “I Spy” Nominations along with a special surprise will be delivered to each classroom.
Watch for more information regarding the week’s events.
Fridays
Each Friday is the day to show your school spirit by wearing your school t-shirt or sweatshirt or wearing the school colors (blue and yellow).
