December Newsletter

Winter Attire
Winter is now upon us. Please remember to have your children wear clothing that is appropriate for the weather. They will be going outside for recess on most days and will need winter attire (coats, hats, boots, etc.) Please make sure to put names on all items that come to school.

Lost and Found
Our lost and found is overflowing again! If your child has lost items at school, please take a moment to check the lost and found ASAP! All unclaimed items will be donated to local charities over the Christmas break.

Open Enrollment
The Open Enrollment window for the 2012-2013 year begins December 1, 2011 and closes February 17, 2012. You can obtain an application at the District Office or online at www.nebo.edu/information/open_enrollment. All applications with the $5.00 fee need to be turned into the District Office or into the main office. If you applied and were accepted for open enrollment last year, you DO NOT need to reapply.

Christmas Holiday
Wednesday, December 21st will be a half day. School will let out at Noon. There will be no school beginning December 22nd and will resume on January 3rd, 2012. Have a wonderful and safe holiday!

Recycling
Thank you for all of your recycling efforts. The receptacles in the parking lot are great for magazines, newspapers, cardboard, phone books, and junk mail.

Help Keep Art City Students Healthy
Please help us to minimize the spread of germs at our school!
DO NOT send students to school unless they have been fever-free for 24 hours.
DO NOT send students to school if they have an appointment the same day to be diagnosed for an illness.
Excuse Your Children
Please remember to call the office in the morning if your child will be absent. Thank you for your help in this matter.

Child Safety
We have had a few “close calls” both before and after school with drivers not yielding to children in the crosswalks. The Springville Police will be monitoring the area in the upcoming weeks. Please slow down and watch out for our children.

School Lunch Announcement
Beginning Dec. 1 and continuing through the end of January, the lunchroom with be offering a Turkey Deli Sandwich instead of Salad option. February 1, 2012 students will have the choice of salad again.

Parenting with Love and Logic
The Parenting with Love and Logic course is designed to help parents practice effective parenting without the power struggles.
Course length is 4 weeks and will be held at Art City on January 17, 24, 31 and February 7 2012 from 6:00-7:30 p.m. To register, please call the secretary at Art City at 801-489-2820.

Timez Attack
Nebo School District purchased each elementary school a one year license for Timez Attack. With this license, Art City students are able to use the game at home.

Here are the instructions for home use:

2. Click on Schools in the top black margin.
3. Press Get started
4. Select ‘Windows’ or ‘Mac’
5. After it launches, select your state, district, and school.
6. Type in the student password eagle in the blank field.
7. Select the student’s class name and then their student name and hit play.
8. If your student is not listed, please notify Tammy Daybell at tamara.daybell@nebo.edu.

Congratulations
We would like to congratulations to Ronda Crane (our secretary). She was awarded the PTA Service Award last month at our PTA Council Meeting. Ronda has given 22 years of service at our school and as many of you know provides a lot of support to our students, teachers, & staff.

Christmas Tree Wish List
If you are thinking of buying your child’s teacher a gift for Christmas, we wanted to remind you that we will be posting Christmas trees by each teacher’s door before December 1st. Each tree has ornaments on it that list some of the things teachers might need in their classroom. This is a great resource for teacher gift-giving ideas. Please remember that giving a gift to a teacher is optional.

Veterans Assembly
Thank you to everyone who helped make our Veteran’s Day Assembly a success. Special thanks to Mr. Haruch for speaking to us about his experiences in the United States Military.
Thank you to all the Veteran’s that came to our assembly. It was truly an honor!
