Welcome from the New Principal
Welcome back, Eagles! I am excited to be the new principal at Art City this year. I can already tell great things will be happening.
My name is Lori Nielsen. I have been in education for 15 years. Before coming to Art City I taught in Spanish Fork at the Canyon Elementary. I have taught 2nd, 3rd and 5th grades.
I am married to Sterling and have five children; Trevor 20 years old, Robbie 18, Hattie 16, Sadie 14, and Hunter who is 11. We love sports, camping, outdoors and laughing together. I love to read, socialize, exercise and learn new things.
My hopes for the new school year are to get to know the people in my new school family and continue to make Art City the best school ever. My office is always open and I would love to hear your ideas and suggestions. Thanks for your kind words and the wonderful job you do with our children. Let’s make this the best year ever!
Your Friend,
Lori Nielsen

PTA meeting
Our first PTA meeting for the 2010-2011 school year will be Wednesday, September 8th at 10:00 a.m. in the faculty lounge. If you are a commissioner, please attend if you can. Your information packet will be given to you this day. All PTA members are welcome to attend.
Fun Run
Get your running shoes on! The 3rd annual Art City Elementary Fun Run is Wednesday, September 15th. The road race (approximately 2.5 miles) is for 3rd-6th graders and will start at 9:00 a.m. Parents are invited to participate in the road race. A shorter race (Art City’s back field) for 1st and 2nd graders will start at 10:00 a.m. Otter pops will be provided for all participants. An awards assembly will be held that afternoon at 1:15 pm. Be on the lookout for the Fun Run flyer that will be coming home with your child in the coming days. Let’s go and pound some pavement!

Art City Blog
We invite you to check out the Art City Blog at artcitynews.blogspot.com. Here you will find more information about upcoming events, happenings at the school, and pictures of different activities at Art City.
The Art City PTA is also on Facebook. You can find us by searching for Art City Elementary PTA. Become a fan and get updates and information about Art City activities right on your wall!
SEP Dinners
SEP dinners for upper grades will be on Sept. 23. Someone will be contacting you if you've signed up to help for this event.
Thank You
A big thank you to all of our PTA and parent volunteers. We couldn’t do what we do without you!
Please make sure to record all of your volunteer hours on the sheet in the front office. This is important information that the PTA reports to the State. This includes time spent in classrooms, helping outside the classroom, babysitting for someone else who is volunteering in a classroom, and work spent as part of a PTA committee.
Reflections
It’s time for Reflections! The theme for the 2010-2011 reflections contest is “Together we can . . . .” The general rules are: (1) Each entry must be your child's original creation. (2) Interpretation of the theme is more important than technique! (3) Each entry must follow rules of size & content for its arts area. (4) Each student can submit one entry per category.
Students can pick up entry forms and category rules in the front office, or you can find them online at http://www.utahpta.org/prog/reflections/
Please be sure that all rules are followed and that the forms are filled out completely; failure to do so could result in the student’s entry being disqualified, and we would hate to see anyone’s hard work turned away because of an oversight.
Entries will be due October 1st.
