Art City PTA Meeting

November 4, 2008 10:00 a.m.

Minutes

Attendance: Kellie Chatfield, Sarah Ferrin, Arryn Patten, Stephanie Petersen, Lori Borget, Dave Rowe, Julia Murray, Sarah Sumsion, Stacey Hatch, Laurie Edwards, Jeni Neel, Nishelle Morgan, Mandi Jeppson, and Niccole Webster

Called to Order: 10:00

Presiding: Kellie Chatfield, PTA President

Trust Fund: Kellie discussed the trust fund set up for the Dalley family, who goes to our school. We want to email PTA members of this so they can contribute if they wish. Also, went over the volunteer hours and recognized the parent helper for the month, Stacey Hatch, with 16 hours for October.

Treasurer: Lori Borget reported the budget for the month and told of the expenses that were for reflections and SEP dinners but everyone stayed within the budget.

Mr. Rowe: Halloween Parade went well and we had a great turn out with parents. Next year idea came up of having children go around hallways to see each other then go to the gym so parents can take children without all the chaos. We want to simplify the parade process. Lori suggested having small budget for decorations. Sarah S. suggested music in gym.

Discussed the concerns parents have on this election day with non-parent persons coming to vote in the school. Decided to put voting in gym to keep voting persons out of halls. Safety measures were being used for this day.

Changes for school parking lot brought up. Putting another safety zone in church parking lot so children are not running through the lot. Notices will be sent out explaining the change. Also, changing the time for kids to be at school to 8:15 instead of 8:10.

Discussed emergency preparedness issue. Talked about having a mock drill. Came up with the idea of having parents put together a emergency bag/kit with necessary items in bag to provide student with those items in case of an emergency. The cost would not be coming out of the school budget but need a place to store the bags/kits in the school. Emergency preparedness scored high from parent’s survey so want to address the issue.

School pictures: Sarah Sumsion discussed school picture retakes. Also, spring pictures coming on February 12th and we want to have Mr. Rowe there to be in pictures. Also, brought up the issue of putting the school pictures on the school blog. Sarah F. working on that.

Newsletter: Mandi reminded all to get info for the school newsletter in on time.

Membership VP: Sarah Ferrin totaled hours for volunteers in October, totaled 420 hours. Reminded all parents who help with field trips to sigh up, thought about putting this in the newsletter. Idea of having sticker badge for parents helping on field trips because of not enough badges.

Legislative: Arryn went to PTA legislative conference with Kellie. Discussed Amendment E and emailed all the info for this. Mr. Rowe explained how the trust land money was spent: three parts to it. Most of money goes to pay wages of tutors. $33,000 budget for year and School Community Council creates the plan and how to spend it.

Kellie: Discussed T-shirt’s that were rejected were not going to be sold. Stephanie brought up idea of Nebo Healthy Challenge ideas for incentives to kids. Want something for kids who aren’t doing the challenge but should be doing it. For the first month we were trying to see how kids responded to the challenge, still wanting for numbers. Thoughts were too much, complicated, and difficult to keep track of the challenge. An idea for an incentive came of having Mont the Magigican with Mission Nutrition let kids have front row seats or special part in assembly.

Asking Nishelle Morgan to set parent volunteer day and to try to make this happen. What parents and teachers want?

No meeting in December.

Adjourn 11:10
